Roulette casinos have been in existence for quite a long time. It may not be as old as the other card games or casino games but roulette casino has a history that has spanned decades too.

Roulette is one of the most popular games in a casino. Everyone can immediately recognize a casino when they see a group of people huddling close together around a roulette table.

Roulette

Roulette is literally translated as little wheel from French and it is a game often played in casinos. In this game, gamblers wage their bets by betting on a number on the roulette wheel, or on the color on the wheel or on an odd or even number on the roulette wheel.

Once the player chooses his bet the croupier spins the roulette wheel in one direction, while spinning the ball in the other direction on a slightly tilted track that runs around the roulette wheel. When the ball loses momentum it will fall on the roulette wheel and lands on one of the pockets. Different kinds of roulette tables have different numbers of pockets. The French/European roulette has 37 pockets while the American has 38. Both of them have coloured and numbered pockets.

History of Roulette

Roulette had its beginning in France in the 18th century. Blaise Pascal came up with the earliest form of roulette when he tried constructing a machine in the 17th century that was capable of being in perpetual motion. It is believed that the roulette wheel was an amalgamation of different English wheel games, such as Reiner, Roly-Poly, E.O. and Ace of Hearts, the Italian board games: Biribi and Hoca and an already existing board game from France of the same name.

In the 19th century, the popularity of the game spread across Europe and the US. When gambling as abolished in Germany in the 1860s, playing roulette was made exclusively in Monte Carlo where only the elite of Europe were able to come over and play. This is why roulette casinos became the “King of Casino Games” because only the rich and famous were able to play this game.

In Monte Carlo, tables of roulette casinos only have the single zero wheel but in the US they play with the double zero wheel played traditionally in France.

Rules in Playing

Playing roulette is quite simple: choose a numerical value, or colour, or an odd or even number and bet on it. When the ball falls on the pocket of the number or colour of your choice then you win the bet. If it doesn’t then you lose.

But there are other options to betting on this game. You can place inside bets wherein you will have to choose the number of the pocket where the ball will land, which is harder since the odds against you is much higher, or you could choose a small range of pockets wherein you will have more options of winning. Outside bets will let you choose an odd or even number, a larger range of pockets or the colour of the pocket.
