Draw Poker – This kind of poker offers players a complete hand which they have to improve the value by replacing it with other cards. The most frequently played Draw Poker game is the Five-Card Draw.

The Five-Card Draw is a variation of poker that is considered to be the simplest among all poker games, which is why most beginners start learning poker by playing this. But players won’t find this game played often in casinos and tournaments.

Stud Poker – Players of this game get a combination of face-down cards and face-up cards in several betting rounds. The most common of these games are the Five-card stud and the Seven-card stud.

The Five-card stud is considered to be an earlier form of stud poker, which originated during the time of the American Civil War. It is not played very often these days compared to other variations of poker, evidence  of which is when it wasn’t included in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Some players from around the world still play this game though, especially in Finland where Sökö, a variation of the five-card stud, is   being played.

The Seven-card stud is another variation of stud poker. This used to be the most played variation prior to the emergence of the Texas Hold ‘em Poker. In this game there are two to eight players and if there are eight players special rules apply for the last cards if none of the players fold.

Community Card Poker – In this variation, face-up cards are shared with each player’s incomplete face-down cards. The most often played games of this variety are the Texas Hold ‘em and the Omaha Hold ‘em.

The Texas Hold ‘em is a kind of poker game wherein two cards are dealt to the player face down and there are five community cards that are dealt face up, which consists of the flop (a series of three), and two additional cards (the turn and the river). The players can check, bet, or raise or fold after every deal, which means that anyone can bet even before the flop.

The Omaha Hold ‘em is another variety of poker which is similar to Texas Hold ‘em. In this game players are given four cards each and they must make their best hand by using the exact two cards in the deck, plus the exact three from the five community cards.
