In order to play a poker game the right way, you should know first what your deck of cards mean. In a deck there are the four suits: diamonds, hearts, clubs and spades. For each suit there are number cards from 2 until 10. The main idea in poker is to combine your cards to make a great hand and the kind of hands that can win you a game are these:

Royal Flush – This is the highest hand in poker that you could get. In this hand there should be a ten, jack, queen, king and ace with all of them bearing the same suit. This is near to impossible to get but sometimes people do get a hand that is this good.

Straight Flush – This hand is second to the Royal flush. It can be beaten by a Royal Flush or even a higher flush but if you have played poker many times you’ll find out that this is a very solid hand. A straight flush consists of five cards of the same suit and in sequence.

Four of a kind – The four-of-a-kind consists of five cards with four of them having the same value. For example, a hand with four 9 cards and one Jack is considered a four-of-a-kind.

Full House – This hand has three cards with the same denomination and two other cards with the same denomination too. This hand is much more common than a four of a kind.

Straight – This hand consists of five cards with progressing denomination and different suits. For example, a hand with a five of clubs, six of hearts, seven of spades, eight of diamonds and a nine of hearts can make up a straight. You can win over other straight cards if the number of your cards are higher than your competitor.

Now that you know the different kinds of hands you can play poker. Just always remember that you need to get the best hand to win over the other players. But if your hand doesn’t look too good then you can resort to bluffing which is the second most important aspect of winning in poker. In order to bluff, if your hand isn’t great, you should make a bet without giving the other players the slightest clue that you have a bad hand. With beginners you might get lucky and have the other players fold but if you’re playing against veteran poker players then you might work harder on your poker face. When bluffing it is important that you not show any body signals that your hand is weak otherwise veteran poker players will read it like a book.
