Almost every person in the world knows what bingo rooms are. Bingo is one of the most popular and most played games all over the world and people from Australia, the United Kingdom and New Zealand are frequent visitors to bingo rooms.

A brief history

Historians said that Bingo probably originated from Italy back in 1530 when it was called “Lo Giuoco del Lotto D’Italia” and it was a game Italians played every Saturday. From Italy the game was brought to France in the late 1770s where it was called “Le Lotto”.

The game finally reached the US in 1929 where it was first called “Beano”. The game was first played in a carnival just outside Atlanta, Georgia and salesman Edwin S. Lowe changed its name to “Bingo” because he probably thought it sounded better and more understandable after hearing a player shout it by mistake.

Mechanics of the Game

Bingo rooms are operated by a caller, whose purpose is to shout out numbers and confirm winning tickets. Before a game starts, the caller will announce to the players the prizes that they could win.

Once the game starts, the caller will shout out numbers that are randomly selected through various ways. Numbers are selected either through drawing counters from a bag or through an electronic Random Number Generator or through drawing balls from a mechanical drawing machine. Simple repetition

Upon entering bingo rooms, players can purchase a book of tickets. In bingo rooms in the UK, playing is divided into different sessions with different books, each one with a designated number of pages. UK players prefer buying books of six tickets that have all the possible numbers in different combinations.

When each number is called, the players have to check their tickets if the number is on it. If the number is on the ticket, players should mark it with a special marker called “dauber” or “dauber”. When the player has marked all the needed numbers to win a prize then he must call out “house” or “line” depending on the prize and someone will check the claim.
